IPL/PDT Skin Rejuvenation
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Skin Rejuvenation and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) are excellent treatments to target sun-damaged skin, age spots, freckles, acne and wrinkles. They also treat vascular lesions such as port wine stains and spider veins, and diffuse redness and uneven pigmentation on the face and body. The result is improved skin texture, firmness and tone, and a more refreshed appearance.
Dr Kode uses the Elipse system, which works by “selective photothermolysis”: directing controlled pulses of light into the skin’s upper layer, targeting only the area being treated without damaging surrounding tissue.
This light is absorbed by melanin in pigmented lesions, and by haemoglobin in the red blood cells of vascular lesions. The light energy is converted into heat, which destroys the parts of cells containing melanin, and damages the walls of the vessels supplying blood to vascular lesions.
Following treatment, your skin may be a little red from the heat of the treatment. Within a week, pigmented lesions will appear darker, and gradually flake off or fade. Treated veins and vascular lesions may turn bluish after treatment, and gradually fade. Photo Rejuvenation is suitable to treat the face, neck, chest and hands.
A full-face treatment takes around 30 minutes, while for other regions, it depends on the size of the area being treated. As IPL is attracted to melanin, you should avoid tanning one month before a treatment, and for the entire treatment course, to avoid any increased pain or risk of burns from excess light absorption into the skin.
For full facial rejuvenation benefits, a series of treatments is recommended – up to 6 treatments for skin rejuvenation. The number of treatments required for specific concerns such as spider veins or pigmented lesions varies, and may be resolved in 2 to 4 treatments. IPL Photo Rejuvenation can be incorporated with the Wrinkle Reduction Photospray Treatment for targeted reduction of wrinkles and fine lines.
